Surface preparation mattersA ready-to-tile surface requires different work from one needing removal, new backing or waterproofing.
Details change the scopeTile format, layout, niches, heated floors and access can increase the installation cost. Photos and a project review help confirm what applies.
Keep shower walls, the shower floor and the room floor separate. Wet areas can need waterproofing, drainage and built-in details that a dry floor does not. A tiled shower floor is different from keeping an existing shower base.
Enter the total tiled floor area, even across several rooms. A plywood or concrete base, existing tile removal, heated flooring and sound underlayment can change the work. Access and transitions can be confirmed in notes or photos.

Measure the surface receiving tile, not the whole room. In feet, length × width gives the floor area: an 8 ft. × 10 ft. floor is 80 sq. ft. For a wall, use width × tiled height. Split an irregular surface into rectangles and add them together.
