Large-format tile
Large tile leaves fewer grout joints to disguise an uneven surface or awkward cut. The plan starts with flatness, access, handling and the exact layout.
Choose the surface that best matches the project, then share the exact tile information. Large-format tile and full porcelain slabs need different access, handling and cutting plans.
01 / 04
Room shape, surface flatness, movement and transitions determine how the tile can be laid out.

02 / 04
Plumbing openings, niches, corners, drains and glass lines need to work with the tile dimensions.
03 / 04
Pattern or vein direction, returns, openings and exposed edges shape the whole elevation.

04 / 04
A 5 × 10 ft porcelain slab is a separate form choice because access, handling, fabrication and setting differ from large-format tile.

Colours on screen are approximate; confirm them against the chosen tile and grout samples. Layouts use compatible tile shapes. Mallet Tile installs the products you select. Final cuts and joint positions depend on the room measurements and chosen material.
Share the exact tile dimensions, thickness, finish and pattern, room measurements, access photos and details about the existing surface. The written scope should address surface flatness, coverage, movement, handling, expected tile-to-tile variation, cuts and edge treatment before the material arrives.
Start your estimate
A larger tile spans more of the surface at once. Changes in plane, corner alignment, plumbing or outlet cuts and floor transitions become easier to see, while each piece is harder to move and adjust. The layout, preparation and handling route therefore need to be considered together.

Share photos, measurements, the selected tile if known and the parts of the room you want tiled.
Review surface preparation, demolition, layout, edges, transitions and any responsibilities involving other trades.
Confirm tile size, pattern, grout, drains, niches and where cuts or exposed edges will land.

Where we work
Mallet Tile installs large-format floor, wall, shower and fireplace tile from Burlington and Oakville through Toronto, Newmarket and surrounding GTA communities. Exact material information and access photos help determine whether the project needs a large-format tile or porcelain-slab plan.

Use these answers to prepare the room details for your estimate.
The visible form groups tile from 12 × 24 in through 24 × 48 in as large format. It lists 5 × 10 ft porcelain slabs as a separate choice because the planning and handling are different.
Send the exact tile dimensions, thickness, finish and pattern, room measurements, access photos, edge conditions and details about the existing surface.
A larger tile spans more of the surface at once. Flatness, coverage, movement and transitions need to be assessed together, then documented in the written scope.
Lippage is the difference in height between the edges of neighbouring tiles. The surface, tile shape, pattern and joint width can all affect the finished relationship, so expectations and relevant site conditions should be discussed before installation.
Identify every opening, corner, exposed edge, pattern direction and adjoining finish. The written scope should state where mitres, trim or another edge treatment is intended and note any material decisions that affect fabrication.
Sometimes. The room geometry, tile dimensions, surface flatness, access route and number of fixture openings determine whether the format creates a sensible layout or too many difficult cuts.
Share the material, measurements and project details. We will begin with a written estimate.
