A shower, a hallway and a backsplash need different work. Here’s what matters when you’re deciding what to have tiled.
A shower needs waterproofing beneath the tile and a floor that drains properly. The tile size, drain, niches and exposed edges all affect the installation.
A lasting tile floor starts with a suitable base and installation assembly. If you would like floor warming, mention it when you enquire so the heating, tile work and electrical connection can be considered together.
Backsplash tile work centers on layout symmetry, precise receptacle cuts, and clean transitions against cabinetry and countertops.
Large tile and slabs need careful handling, a suitable base and well-planned cuts. Fireplace surrounds also need materials and clearances suited to the appliance.

The area is only part of the cost. Two rooms of the same size can need different preparation and finishing work.
Removing the old finish, preparing the base and waterproofing can each add work. Tile size, niches, corners and the condition of the room also affect the installation cost.

The answer depends on the complete renovation, not the tile finish by itself. Use the linked City of Toronto resource for the project address, especially when walls, structure, plumbing, mechanical systems or room use change. Electrical work follows a separate approval path through the Electrical Safety Authority.
